Operating a Vehicle in a Race or Exhibition of Speed or Acceleration

The charge of “operating a vehicle in a race or exhibition of speed or acceleration” is commonly referred to as a “boy racer” charge. The offending itself is often associated with racing or heavy acceleration to such an extent that it causes safety risks towards other road users or pedestrians.

The charge itself carries a maximum penalty of 3 months imprisonment, along with a criminal conviction. It also has a mandatory minimum period of 6 months of driving disqualification, and unfortunately, no option for diversion.

If you find yourself charged with this offence, feel free to contact me to discuss your options. This might range from a defence, a discharge without conviction or a Limited (Work) Licence, and I speak more about some of those options in my other videos.
